Mackinac Bridge & Mackinac Island

Mackinac Bridge & Mackinac Island

It was a great day to visit Mackinac Island (clear skies with temps in the mid 70’s).  After over five miles of walking the hills on Mackinac Island, my feet are tired—there are no motorized vehicles allowed on Mackinac Island. You either ride in a horse drawn carriage, ride a bike, or walk. We walked… and walked… and walked some more.

It is a very picturesque island. The highlight is the Grand Hotel.  Rooms are over $400 per night! Yikes! They charge $10 just to walk on it’s porch!  Barb and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Gate House and had a hot fudge sundae at Sander’s.  We also bought some JoAnn’s Fudge to savor in our Airstream later!

One mode of transportation. The other is bike or walk.

On the ferry ride to Mackinac Island we went under the mighty Mackinac Bridge.  What a marvel of man’s ingenuity.  At the time it was built in 1957, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.  We will travel over the Mackinac Bridge tomorrow when we go into Michigan’s lower peninsula.
