No Need For God
The real reason the wicked reject God is because they are totally self-sufficient and do not feel they needed God (Job 21:7-15)! Wealth and health keep more people away from God than poverty and pain.
Wicked living begins when a person starts living independently of God (Rom. 1:21). Job describes the wicked as those who say unto God, “Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?” (Job 21:14-15).
Ezekiel 16:49—“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness…” America is no different than Sodom in this respect—America is stuck on itself (pride)… has too much to eat (fullness of bread)… and has so much idle time on it’s hands (abundance of idleness), they don’t know what do.
How many things have you done wrong simply because you were not doing what was right? If you spent more time doing what you should be doing, you would not have time to do what you should not be doing! It’s the time you don’t spend reading God’s Word that gets you into trouble. It’s the neglect of prayer that causes us to trust the flesh. John R. Rice used to say, “All my failures are prayer failures.”
Sins of omission are much more serious than sins of commission. Why does a person go to hell? Because of something he does not do (Heb. 2:4).
