Pasties!
Greetings from “Yooper Land” (slang for Upper Peninsula of Michigan). One thing residents of the U.P. are noted for are delicious “pasties” (pass tees). I’ve heard about these, but never tried one until today at Dobber’s Pasties in Escanaba, MI.
Pasties are kinda like a firm meat “turn-over” that you pick up in your hand. Traditionally they are made of lean pieces of chuck roast, potatoes, onion, rutabaga, seasonings, baked inside a golden crust (made of flour and lard)… Very good (and very filling)!
If you ever visit the U.P. of Michigan, be sure to treat yourself to an original homemade pasty. Delicious!
