Putting Suffering in Perspective

Putting Suffering in Perspective

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. —Romans 8:18

No one enjoys suffering. But when you compare any suffering “of the present time”  with the glory you’ll experience in the eternity, you have no reason to complain!

As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:17, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Notice, Paul calls our affliction “light” compared to a “weight of glory.”  He says our affliction is “but for a moment” (it won’t last), but glory is “eternal” (it will never end!). Praise God.

For example: A pregnant woman is groaning in labor pains just before delivering a child into this world. But once that little baby is born and placed into her arms, all the pain she went through is not to be compared to the joy of holding her new born baby! She forgets all about the travailing in labor. The same is true in regards to our momentary suffering. When you get to heaven and see Jesus all the pain you endured in this life won’t even come to your mind.
