REASONABLE SERVICE
REASONABLE SERVICE
“…which is your REASONABLE service.” —Romans 12:1
When God asks you to give your body to serve Him, He is not asking for anything unreasonable. After all, He created it and purchased it with His blood. It belongs to Him (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
It is only logical that you serve God with your body. It is a natural expression of love, appreciation, and adoration for all He has done for you.
God is not asking you to do something unreasonable like He commanded of some Old Testament prophets. He told Isaiah to walk around for three years barefoot wearing no pants (Isa. 20:1-3). Now, you might call that unreasonable! It would be unreasonable if God commanded you to eat a scroll of Scripture like He did Ezekiel (Ezek. 3:1-3). If God told you to marry a prostitute like He commanded Hosea, you could say that is unreasonable (Hosea 1:2).
However, God gives you salvation from an eternity in hell-fire—You give Him your body to serve Him on earth. He rewards you with a crown in glory. Is there anything unreasonable about that?
That is what Isaac Watts meant when he wrote:
Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.
