RENEWED

“…renew our days as of old.” — Lamentations 5:21
In our text, Jeremiah is lamenting captivity of God’s people and prays for God to renew them as they once were years ago. Because of the law of entropy, renewal is something that is needed regularly. It is also true in the spiritual realm. Paul recognized the need of renewal when he wrote, “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Cor. 4:16).
About a year and a half ago I purchased a treadmill. I use it almost everyday and sometimes twice a day. However, a couple of months ago it became sluggish and would not sustain a speed over 5 mph. Thankfully we purchased an extended warranty on it. When the technician came out to fix it, he installed a new motor, new electrical circuit board, new rollers, and a new lifetime tread-belt. It runs like a new machine again. Why? Because it’s been renewed.
Do you sense your spiritual life getting a little sluggish? Do you find it hard to sustain any spiritual momentum in serving God? If so, you need to pray for the Spiritual Technician of the Holy Spirit to renew you in the spirit of your mind (Rom. 12:1-2; Eph. 4:23).
Pray, as David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Ps. 51:10).
