John was known as the Apostle of love. Yet, he was so overwhelmed by the love of God, all he could say was, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us!” He couldn’t find the words to adequately express the love of God. Words like wonderful… amazing… marvelous… incredible… magnificent all seem to fall short of the true character of God’s love!
David loved God’s house. He said, “Because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God…” (1 Chron. 29:3). I like David’s mindset. His love showed up in his giving to God’s house.
David said, I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD” (Ps. 122:1).
There was a time in America when the church was the most respected institution in the country. Not any more. Most people are not glad about going to church. The popularity of the church has fallen on hard times. Many politicians don’t like the church because it doesn’t pay taxes.
There is an intertwining analogy between Christ’s relationship with the church and the relationship of a husband and wife in marriage. The way Christ treats the church is how a husband should treat his wife. Likewise, as the church is subject unto Christ, so a wife should be submissive to her husband.
The four dimensions of God’s love are all part of John 3:16: For God so loved the world… [the BREADTH] …that he gave his only begotten Son… [the LENGTH] …that whosoever believeth in Him should n•ot perish… [the DEPTH] …but have everlasting life [the HEIGHT].
The book of Nehemiah is about his overseeing the rebuilding of the walls around Jerusalem. It is a book about WORK. Some form of the words work, labour, build, or repair occur 80 times in its short 13 chapters.
Nehemiah’s success depended on how well he organized and motivated workers to join him in building the wall. Obviously he could NOT build the wall single-handedly.
