Small Things
Small Things
But thou, Beth–lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. —Micah 5:2
Christ was not born is some large metropolis like Jerusalem or Rome. He was born in the little town of Bethlehem. Why? Because God is the God of the little things as well as the big stuff.
God is a God of details. We are tempted to casually read over the intricate details of the dimensions, materials, and designs of the Temple in 1 Kings 5-7 without paying much attention. God included these minute details because He is the God of small things as well as large things.
Big things are made up of small things. Big churches are composed of individual members who each have unique qualities that make a church what it is.
One of the lessons of Christ’s parable of the talents in Matthew 25 is the person with one talent is just as important as the one with ten talents if he uses it to it’s utmost potential. The reason Christ condemned the servant with one talent was because he didn’t use what his master gave him.
Never think that because you are not as talented as others, you are not needed or unimportant. Use the talent God gave you to it’s maximum potential. Give it all you’ve got for God’s glory and you’ll be rewarded just as much as the multitalented believer.
“For who hath despised the day of small things?” (Zechariah 4:10). My wife recently sent me a little quote that read: “Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” Never underestimate the potential in small things. A short note… a pat on the back… a smile… a handshake or a hug.
Are you using your talent/skill (carpentry, music, singing, teaching, clerical, technical savvy) to it’s fullest potential in God’s work? Remember, “Little is much, when God is in it!”
