Standing Before the Lord

Standing Before the Lord

“…before whom I stand…” —2 Kings 5:16

Elisha’s expression “As the LORD liveth, BEFORE WHOM I STAND” is the attitude of a servant who stands ready to serve his master (cf. 2 Kings 5:25).  Notice how the queen of Sheba referred Solomon’s servants—“Happy are these thy SERVANTS, which STAND continually before thee…” (1 Kings 10:8). They were standing at attention before Solomon waiting to be told what to do.  Hezekiah charged the priests of the Temple, “The LORD hath chosen you to STAND before him, to SERVE him…” (2 Chron. 29:11 cf. Dt. 10:8).

Paul exhorts us to “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable SERVICE” (Rom. 12:1).  We should stand before the Lord always ready to serve Him in whatever capacity He asks.

Are you standing before the Lord, reporting for duty?
