Taste and See
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” —Psalm 34:8
The liberal theologian Paul Tillich gave a series of lectures at the University of Chicago trying to prove Christ did not raise from the grave. At the end of his lecture he asked if there were any comments or questions. One old preacher stood up towards the back of the auditorium eating an apple. Tillich said to the preacher, “Yes, what is your question?” The preacher just stood there eating his apple. Tillich again said, “Do you have a comment or not?”
The preacher took another bite of the apple and said, “Mr. Tillich, can you tell me if this apple is sweet or bitter?”
Tillich answered, “Of course I can’t. How can I if I’ve never tasted it?”
The preacher said, “Then how can you tell if the resurrection is real or not if you’ve never tasted of the risen Christ?” The audience broke out in applause and Tillich left the platform without saying another word.
Have you tasted the Lord? If you have, you know He is good. If you haven’t, have a taste, and you’ll be satisfied forever!
