The Choice is Up to You
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: —Psalms 78:70
took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had... —1 Samuel 17:40
Sometimes God makes the choice; other times God leaves the choice up to us. God chose David, but David chose the five smooth stones. There are times God expects us to choose on our own judgment in taking care of the giant obstacles in our path. I’m sure David didn’t pray and ask God which stones to pick out of the brook. He simply picked out the stones he believed would do the job.
We are all different—different in temperaments, tastes, and talents. We are to consider this, and choose what is best, and most suitable for ourselves, in winning against our personal Goliaths.
We cannot always overcome the difficulties of life in traditional ways. Saul’s armor does not fit everybody. You choose what you’re comfortable with, even a homemade slingshot. Never let anyone force you to go in their armor; you were not fitted for it, and it certainly does not fit you.
