The God of Details

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. —Psalm 139:3

Sometimes we cannot see the trees for the forest.  We miss the individual sheep for the flock. We overlook the blade of grass in a field of grass. And the individual soul is lost amongst the crowd.

God doesn’t see things in a general way. He is the God of every particular detail. Nothing escapes His notice. He calls His sheep by name. Every hair on our head is numbered.  When God sees the trees, He sees every leaf on every branch.  Not a single sparrow falls to the ground without Him noticing.

What a comfort God sees every individual person as though he were the only one living on planet earth.  I love the song, “He Loves Me Like I Was His Only Child.”  So true!  Therefore, I need not fear that I am overlooked by God.  God is “acquainted with all my ways.”  He knows where I am, and what circumstances I am facing.  He knows my every step… every turn… every hill… every valley… every struggle… every tear! He knows AND He understands.

Take heart Christian friend. “The Lord hath been mindful of us.” (Ps.115:12).   You can say with Job, “He knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
