The Joyful Sound
“Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound” —Psalm 89:15
What is this joyful sound? It is the sound of the trumpet that calls the saint to come before the Lord in worship (Lev. 23:24-27; Ps. 98:6). What a blessing to come into the presence of the Lord. A call to worship is a joyous experience!
How are the people blessed?
1. In ILLUMINATION— “They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance” (v. 15). God’s favor shall shine upon them as they walk through difficult and troublesome places. There shall always be a patch of light to lighten their way.
2. In EXULTATION— “In thy name shall they rejoice all the day” (v. 16a). Light is a great encourager. It warms the heart and thaws the frozen spirit. It leads to rejoicing in the light.
3. In EXALTATION— “In thy righteousness shall they be exalted” (v. 16b). God lifts us above our strifes, worries, and fears to find peace in the heights of His righteous judgments.
Have you answered that joyful sound?
