The Outward Appearance
The Outward Appearance
Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. —1 Samuel 16:7
Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? —2 Corinthians 10:7
Recently one of my son-in-laws noticed some animal shaped cookies sitting on the counter top in the kitchen. They looked good, so he picked one up to munch on. As soon as he bit into it he knew something was wrong. It was very hard and tasted terrible. He thought either these “cookies” were missing some important ingredients, or someone needed to learn how to cook. He soon found out the “cookie” was actually a dog biscuit!
Looks can be deceiving. That is why the Bible warns about judging things after “the outward appearance.” Things are not always as they seem.
Only God sees the complete picture. He knows the end from the beginning, and how a thing will “play out” in the end. Therefore, before you decide to “take a bite” of some morsel in life, you better check with God first to see if it is fit for “eating!” It might be “food” not intended for you.

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thess. 5:21).
