The Principal Thing

Proverbs 4:7—“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom...”  

    Wisdom is the PRIMARY thing… the FIRST thing… the MAIN thing… the MOST IMPORTANT thing. It is the principle thing.  There is nothing you and I need more than wisdom.  No single quality will do more for you than wisdom. “Wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Prov. 8:11).  Solomon, who wrote this Proverb, realized that wisdom is the best thing a person could want (see 2 Kings 3:5-14).

1.  Wisdom will PROTECT you from making bad decisions… bad relationships… bad teachings, and… bad situations.
2.  Wisdom will PRESERVE your health, your marital bliss, and your financial security.
3.  Wisdom will PROMOTE your success in life (Prov. 4:8).
4.  Wisdom will PRESIDE over your tongue and teach you what to say, how to say it, and when to shut up (Prov. 15:1-2; 17:28).
5.  Wisdom will PROVIDE for you daily needs (Prov. 6:6-8). 

   “Therefore, GET WISDOM” (Proverbs 4:5, 7).  Where do you get wisdom?  ANSWER:  From Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30) and by asking for it (James 1:5). 

    Do yourself a favor—Get wisdom!  “He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul” (Prov. 19:8).
