The “Yes” in the Mess
“For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was preached among you… not yea and nay, but in him was YEA. For all the promises of God in him ARE YEA, and in him AMEN!” —2 Cor. 1:19-20
Our text presents a great principle: “There’s a ‘yes’ in every mess.”
Paul wrote this to a church in a mess (carnality, incest, factions, fighting, heresies). Paul was saying, Jesus is God’s YES in your mess. No matter what uncontrollable thing is going on in your life, know that Jesus is in control and He is working in them (Rom. 8:28).
There is no such thing as a totally negative experience or situation. There can be no negative without a positive. There is always a “yes” buried somewhere in the midst of our mess. Thomas Edison failed over 700 times in trying to invent the light bulb. After the 700th experiment failed, his assistant said, “You failed again.” Edison answered, “No I haven’t failed… I’ve succeeded in finding another thing that doesn’t work.”
Joseph found himself in a mess when he was betrayed by his brothers… sold as a slave in Egypt… falsely accused, imprisoned, and forgotten. But he learned there was a YES in him mess. Through it all He saved his entire family. He testified to his brothers, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass… to save much people alive” (Gen. 50:20).
What is God doing in your life that forces you to trust Him that He is in control and working out a “yes” in your mess?
