There’s Something About That Name
There’s Something About That Name
…and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. —Acts 19:17
One of the first things a new parent considers is choosing a name for their child. However, several parents in the Bible had no choice. The choice was made for them. God named Hagar’s son Ishmael (Gen. 16:11). God told Abraham to name his son Isaac (Gen. 17:19). Zacharias and Elisabeth had no choice concerning the name of their new born son. God made the choice for them—“Thou shalt call his name John” (Luke 1:13).
Likewise, God told Joseph, “Thou shalt call his name JESUS” (Mt. 1:21). What is so special about this name? It’s a name that reveals His purpose— “…for he shall save his people from their sins.” As Peter boldly preached, “There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved!” (Acts 4:12).
The name of Jesus is “a name which is above every name” (Phil. 2:9).
Henceforth, we believe on His name (1 John 3:23)… We are justified by His name (1 Cor. 6:11)… We baptize in His name (Acts 2:38)… We pray in His name (John 15:16)… We gather in His name (Mt. 18:20)… We give thanks in His name (Eph. 5:20)… We teach in His name (Acts 4:18)… We preach in His name (Acts 9:27). In short— “whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Col. 3:17).
We must never hesitate or be ashamed to mention His name. There is power in the name of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 5:4). There is coming a day “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:10-11).
All Hail The Power of Jesus Name!
