Three People of Discipleship
To be a productive disciple you need these three people in your life:
First, you need a PACESETTER ahead of you leading the way—Like a “role-model.. Moses was Joshua’s pacesetter (Ex.24:13). Elijah was Elijah’s pacesetter (1 Kings 19:19-21). The truth is, everyone is following someone. Who is the pacesetter in your life?
Next, you need a PEER beside you to encourage you in the way. Our peers have a big influence in our life. Therefore it is important to keep company with the right kind of people. Barnabas was Paul’s peer (Acts 9:26-27; 11:19-30; 12:25; 13:1-2). Paul and Barnabas are mentioned together in 17 verses in the Book of Acts. Who is your peer?
Finally, you need a PUPIL following you as you follow Christ (1 Cor. 11:1; Phil. 3:17; 4:19; 1 Thess. 1:6; 2 Thess. 3:6-7, 9). Timothy was Paul’s pupil (2 Tim. 2:2). You should be teaching someone how to live for Jesus. Your pupils are your legacy. Who is your pupil?
Following the right pacesetter, with likeminded peers, and having a good pupil, your ministry for the Lord will continue after you are gone.
