TODAY, September 9

This is the day which the LORD hath made… —Psalm 118:24

Today is a special day. What is so special about September 9?  Perhaps today is special because it is your birthday or anniversary.  September 9, 1785 is the birthday of Peter Cartwright, one of America’s greatest circuit riding preachers. [Read about him at this LINK.]  Today in 1776, Congress renamed the union the “United States of America.” Or, today, in 1850, California became the 31st state.  September 9 is also special for Sandy Koufax when in 1965 he pitched a perfect game against the Chicago Cubs.

But what if none of these events or facts seem to make your September 9 special? Then consider the following:

Today is another day you have to praise the Lord. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Today God provides you a fresh batch of His mercies. Jeremiah wrote, “The Lord’s mercies…are new every morning” (Lam. 3:22-23).

Today is another opportunity to trust God to meet your needs. “Give us this day our daily bread” (Mt. 6:11).

Today God will renew your inner man. “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Cor. 4:16).

Today is another day you are privileged to open and study His Word like those believers at Berea who “searched the Scriptures daily” (Acts 17:11).

Today is the day of salvation if you are unsaved. “Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2). Don’t put it off.

Thank God for today! With the Lord, today, and every day, is special.  Use it for His glory!

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Ps. 90:12).

  1. Today is the day that I found out why God allowed me to have a bad infection in my finger. It was because I found out this morning from my foot doctor that I received a stress fracture the same day that I got stung by the insect whose stinger infected my finger. If not for the fact that I had been stung and gotten an infection, I would have been doing much more exercise and yard-work and the ankle would not be healing as well as it is. The medication that I took for the infection also helped with the healing of the ankle. Today is also the day I found out that I have tendonitis in the same ankle that got broken and because of the tendonitis, I can’t do the exercise and yard-work that needs to get done, so that means that my ankle can continue to heal nicely. Thank you Lord for the strange way that you do things. You always know what is best, even when I surely do not understand.
