Treasure in Earthen Vessels
Treasure in Earthen Vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. —2 Corinthians 4:7
The body of every Christian is a vessel made of earth (Gen. 2:7). Vessels are made to hold something. As an “earthen vessel” we contain within us a “treasure” — the power of the Holy Ghost. We have all the power needed, but it needs to be unleashed.
I’ve heard Christians pray for revival fire to fall upon us. I believe personal revival doesn’t fall from above, but rises up from within our “earthen vessels.” The power is already inside us. As this power rises up from individual believers, it ignites revival in churches and communities. But it starts inside each individual Christian who is a reservoir of that power. For revival to “break out” it must first “break out” in you.
I believe the thing that hinders God’s power from springing forth from us is our vessels clogged with dirt. That is why Paul said, “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work” (2 Tim. 2:21). You would not drink out of a dirty glass. Likewise, we cannot expect God to use a dirty vessel to manifest His power.
Is your earthen vessel clean and ready for God to use for His glory?
