TROUBLE IS A FRIEND
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you. —1 Peter 4:12
Trouble… It is our lot in life. If anybody knew about trouble it was Job. He said, “Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7). Again Job says, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble” (Job 14:1).
Trouble comes in all shapes and sizes: Health troubles, financial troubles, marital and family troubles, troubles on the job… there is no escape from troubles except the grave.
There is a song I like called “Trouble Is A Friend,” sung by Lenka. It may sound strange, but it is the truth. Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “If I had a formula for bypassing trouble, I wouldn’t pass it around. I wouldn’t be doing anyone a favor. Trouble creates a capacity to handle it . . . . Meet it as a friend, for you’ll see a lot of it and you had better be on speaking terms with it.”
Let’s not think it strange when trouble comes, for God is using it to test the stamina of our souls. Remember” Great triumphs are born out of great troubles.
