WORSHIP

“And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen, Alleluia.” —Revelation 19:4

Many Christians view a church as a form of entertainment. There is a stage upon which singers sing and a minister speaks his lines. There is also an audience who sit and watch the “performance” onstage. If someone in the audience is sufficiently “entertained,” they may come back next week for another performance.

Of course, this is not what church is all about. The real audience of a church service is God. The people on the platform are not performers, but worship leaders. Those sitting in the pews are the worshippers.

The most important thing is what takes place within the hearts of the congregation—not what happens “onstage.” When a person leaves a church service, they should not be asking, “What did I get out of it?” Rather they should ask, “Was God pleased with my involvement in worshipping Him?”

Philip Yancey said, “The goal of worship is nothing less than to meet and please our God.”

Is God pleased with how you worship Him at church, or do you merely come to be entertained.

At the heart of worship is worship from the heart.
