Your Purpose
Your Purpose
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. —Isaiah 43:7
Inventions are made to serve a purpose or multiple purposes. The same is true of concerning you as being God’s creation. God created and designed you to fulfill a purpose.
When you don’t know an item’s purpose, you will be prone to misuse it. For example, if you don’t know the purpose of a knife, you will probably misuse it.
Craig Groeschel tells a story in his book Altar Ego about something that happened in his childhood that illustrates this. He was unloading baseball equipment from the trunk of his dad’s car. All the gear was stacked in a pile. A fifth grade girl that lived next door saw this pile of baseball gear and was curious about one item called “an athletic cup.” It was a concave, triangular piece of thick plastic, usually padded a little on the side that goes against your body. This protective device cups the most vulnerable area of a man’s body during sports. She picked it up and asked, “Hey, what’s this? Oh, I know. It’s an oxygen mask, right?” Then she placed it over her nose and mouth and began to breath into it. Gross! As I said, if you don’t know the true purpose of something, you will misuse it.
God created you for the purpose of glorifying Him (Isa. 43:7). Revelation 4:11 says, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” We exist to bring God pleasure. Paul wrote, “Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Cor. 6:20). If you are using your life for any other purpose, you are misusing it.
