Priorities of Life

Priorities of Life

“Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment.” —Matthew  6:25).

Jesus is talking about the priorities of life—What’s important and what is not important.

If a child’s entire wardrobe were burned in a house fire, and all the food is burnt to a crisp, it would not matter as long as the child’s life was safe.  What’s in the pantry or in the closet, is not as important as a person’s life.  “Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”  Too often we are more concerned about what’s on the menu and what clothes we will wear than life itself.

For example, you give a child three gifts on his birthday: (1) A toy car; (2) a baseball glove; and (3) a new puppy.  What do you think that child will play with the most?  Of course, the puppy. Why? Because that puppy is alive.  People are interested in life!  Life is attractive!

As it has been wisely said, “The best things in life are not things.” Or, as Jesus said, A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth(Luke 12:15).

What good will it do you if you gain the whole world and lose your soul? (Mk. 8:36).
