The Gift or the Giver?
A father asked his son, “Son, what would you like for Christmas?” Usually, the son was very specific what he wanted. But this Christmas he told his Dad, “I’d like a ball.” His Dad was somewhat puzzled and asked, “OK, Son—What kind of ball?” His son answered, “Oh, either a football or basketball.” “Is that it?” asked the father. “Does it matter which ball you want?” “Well, Dad, if you are going to be too busy this year like last year, just get me a basketball. I can shot hoops in the driveway by myself. But if you have time to spend with me, I’d like a football that we can play catch with.” That father got the message. His son wanted to spend quality time with his Dad.
God loves to give us gifts. But most of all, He desires for us to spend time with Him. Too often we are more enamored about God’s gifts than the Giver of the gifts.
How much quality time have you spent with the Lord this week?
