“He Took It Upon Himself”

“He Took It Upon Himself”

HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF

TEXT: Philippians 2:7 (cf. Isa 50:5-6; Rom. 15:3; 2 Cor. 8:9; Heb. 2:16)

I. He took upon Himself the form of a SERVANT (Phil 2:7).

Jesus demonstrated this when He washed the disciples feet (John 13).  He did this as an example of humble service.

II. He took upon Himself to be our SACRIFICE (1 Cor. 5:7; Eph. 5:2; Heb 9:26; 10:11-12). He was a willing sacrifice (John 10:15-18).

Jesus was not dragged to the cross. He willingly laid down His life for us.  We are called to do the same for others.

III. He took upon Himself the judgment of our SIN (Isa. 53:6, 12; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 2:24).

He suffered the agony that should have been mine.

pastedGraphic.pngSong: He Took It Upon Himself (Trinity Quartet)

He took it upon Himself, to save this old sinful world

He took it upon Himself, to open the gates of pearl.

He knew that my sin would be – Too heavy a load for me.

So to save my soul from hell – He took it upon Himself!
