Preach Christ
But we preach Christ crucified, —1 Corinthians 1:23
The main message of the early church was simply Jesus! “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ” (Acts 5:42). “Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them” (Acts 8:5). “Philip opened his mouth… and preached unto him Jesus“ (Acts 8:35). “And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God” (Acts 9:20)
During the last five years I pastored at Bible Baptist Church I preached over 180 sermons simply about Jesus—Messages on the ministry of Jesus, the prayer life of Jesus, the names of Jesus, the physiology of Jesus, the questions of Jesus, etc. It was the most personally rewarding series of sermons I’ve ever prepared.
My advice to any young preacher is simply “Make much of Jesus!” As the old hymn says, “More about Jesus, would I know!” Everything in our life must revolve around Jesus. He is to be the Preeminent One in all we do! The Greeks came to the disciples and said, “We would see Jesus” (John 12:31). Amen! I pray people will “see” Jesus in me.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord… —2 Corinthians 4:5
