The Sounds of Silence
When Silence Speaks
The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. The nobles held their peace… — Job 29:9-10
We say so much by what we don’t say. When we are indifferent to our children’s grades, skinned knee, their friends… When we ignore their concerns, we are saying something to them… loud and clear. When a person doesn’t talk to others about the Gospel… doesn’t witness for Christ… doesn’t share his testimony of what God has done for him… Is not involved in an outreach ministry—What message is he sending? Is he saying by his silence he doesn’t care about souls going to hell? When a person seldom talks about the ministry of his church to his friends… seldom attends the services of his church… doesn’t tithe to support the work of his church, would it be safe to say he doesn’t really care about his church? He isn’t backbiting… He isn’t being critical… He isn’t causing dissension. He’s just silent. Unconcerned. Indifferent. He doesn’t care, and that message comes through too—loud and clear.
Silence sometimes speaks louder than words (Luke 14:4).
